Breastfeeding Support Groups

All NCT antenatal courses have a branch breastfeeding counsellor supporting the class and providing a breastfeeding class and on-going support to participants.

If you would like information and support and a face-to-face meeting with one of the branch breastfeeding counsellors, you can arrange an appointment at the Great Oaks Clinic in Basildon on Mondays between 1-3pm by calling 01268 522401. You do not have to be an NCT member or to have attended classes to benefit from this free service.

Alternatively you can call the NCT Breastfeeding Line on 0870 444 8708 (8am to 10pm, seven days a week). Breastfeeding is a new skill to learn and we all need help and support in learning new things. If you are finding it painful or if you have any questions at all about breastfeeding, stopping breastfeeding, expressing milk or any breastfeeding related matter do call. Counsellors love to hear from new mums and new mums tell us just how much they appreciate the support counsellors give.

Our breastfeeding counsellors are not going to tell you what you should or should not be doing, but will give your the opportunity to talk to someone who is non-judgemental about your own situation, feelings and preferences.

In addition, our branch teachers and counsellors work closely with other organistations in the area to provide a comprehensive support network for parents who are breastfeeding.

Support Groups / Baby Cafe:

NCT Breastfeeding support group in Basildon: Tuesday 12.30 - 2pm at The Cherrydown Children's Centre, 4 Cherrydown West, SS16 5AT (map). A friendly, supportive group for anyone thinking about breastfeeding or who is breastfeeding, come and make friends with other breastfeeding mums. Refreshments available.

Baby Cafe offers a weekly drop-in centre for pregnant women, mums, dads & families interested in breastfeeding and those involved in supporting them. A friendly, relaxed cafe atmosphere with both expert advice and support from other mums always on hand. Toddlers and older children always welcome.
