Released on: 06 October 2023
For one week only (11 – 18 October 2023), we are thrilled that NCT will be part of the Big Give.
This seven-day fundraising drive will double donations to our charity, helping us to support even more women, and people as they become parents across the UK and Channel Islands.
As a charity, NCT is increasingly concerned that experiences of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood vary wildly across the UK.
Today, women and people who become parents are less likely to report getting the help they need during labour, birth, and postnatally; less likely to get information to help make informed decisions about their care; and less likely to feel that their concerns are taken seriously.
We need your help to support everyone who becomes a parent to feel confident, connected, and safe.
We know that circumstances are tough right now but, if you can donate, (live from midday on the 11 October) this is a brilliant one-week opportunity to have your generosity doubled.
- £5 could help one of our 7,000 volunteer-led community events – like NCT Bumps & Babies, NCT Baby Cafés, or NCT Walk & Talk - offer a warm welcome to a new mother struggling and feeling lonely in the early days of parenthood. “I had anxiety before giving birth, and then postnatal depression. A lot of this stemmed from high standards I held myself to from social media about how having a baby was “supposed” to be. Meeting other parents helped me to realise that as long as your baby is growing and loved, that’s all that matters.” Parent, Bradford.
- £12 could provide an emergency care package of nappies and other essentials for parents and babies in vulnerable circumstances. ‘The Baby Bundle was amazing and the family who received it are over the moon – they can, at last, take their little daughter out for a walk in her new pram.’ Practitioner, Sevenoaks & Tonbridge.
- £25 could help cover the costs of an interpreter to help women from refugee or asylum-seeking communities access counselling via our Newham Nurture programme. “It has given me the opportunity to share my feelings and helped me to think more positively. I felt like life was nothing before but now it has given me hope for the future.” Parent, London.
- £75 could support the night-time cover of our NCT Infant Feeding Line 0808 506 7838) to provide parents - 54% calling with a baby under two weeks old - with free access to professionally qualified Breastfeeding Counsellors. One parent said, “Cannot recommend the NCT Infant Feeding Line enough – an absolute lifeline in the early days of breastfeeding. A lady called Jo dealt with me crying down the phone to her at 11pm and she gave me such reassurance.”
Keep up to date on Big Give week by following us on NCT Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and sharing with your network. Thank you again for all the amazing support that you give to NCT.
