Responding to the latest Care Quality Commission report, Angela McConville, NCT’s Chief Executive, said:
“Parents entering the maternity system should feel confident that they will receive the best care possible, yet too often, they are met with services stretched to breaking point.
“The ongoing unsafe staffing levels, insufficient time to listen to and care for women, and outdated facilities continue to undermine the delivery of safe, compassionate, and personalised care. Despite countless reports, no fundamental changes have been made, leaving women, parents and babies at risk.
“My message to the Government is clear: It's time for action – not sleepless nights.
“Safe, high-quality maternity care can only be achieved with a well-supported, properly trained workforce. This requires not just investment in staffing, but also a commitment to interdisciplinary collaboration between midwives, doctors, nurses, and mental health specialists, to ensure seamless, effective care for families.
“Accountability is essential. Maternity services need strong, transparent leadership that takes responsibility for failings and acts swiftly to implement meaningful improvements.
“NCT calls on Government to step up and put the safety and wellbeing of parents and babies first.”
