Responding to the launch of its new 5-year strategy, For Every Parent, Angela McConville, Chief Executive at NCT, said:
“I am delighted to share our bold, new For Every Parent strategy, which we have launched with a clear mission to reach and support more people as they become parents, while we strive to create an equitable system that works for every parent.
“We believe that parents help build the foundations of the future. Our vision is that everyone who becomes a parent feels confident, connected, and safe. This strategy is a response to the diverse and evolving experiences of parents in the UK, the overstretched maternity and healthcare systems they rely on, the racial and postcode lottery of disparities in quality of care, the chronic lack of postnatal support and the crisis in cost of living.
“As a charity, we have a proud 65-year history of creating transformative change in the lives of pregnant women and new parents, but we know there is still much to be done. Over the coming five years, we will campaign for maternity reform and systemic investment; we will call for further improvements in the information, support, and services all new and expectant parents and families receive. We will make our services and content more inclusive and accessible, including extending breastfeeding and infant feeding support to all women and parents in the community and through the national support line we operate. By becoming a more diverse, equitable and inclusive organisation, we will build a thriving workforce that supports everyone who becomes a parent. Finally, our charity must be progressive and sustainable, now and in the future, so we will collaborate, build strong partnerships and above all, keep listening to ensure we remain relevant and engaging for every parent, on their terms.
“These key priorities could not have been shaped without the support, involvement and experiences of over 1,500 parents, NCT members, staff, students, practitioners, volunteers, trustees and partner organisations, who shared and shaped this strategy collaboratively. For Every Parent will have long-lasting and far-reaching benefits, not just for parents, but also for children, families, and our wider society.
“We hope you will partner with us so that we can continue to support and empower everyone as they become parents through pregnancy, birth, infant feeding and early parenthood. Together, we can ensure every parent feels confident, connected, and safe.”
