NCT is proud to be supporting the second annual Black Maternal Health Conference UK to foster discussions and solutions around the systemic racial disparities facing Black women accessing NHS maternity services.
Organised by The Motherhood Group, the all-day event will take place on Monday 18 March. This year’s theme is “Achieving Health Equity for Black Mothers” and will include panels, workshops and discussions – all of which will be guided by Black maternal voices.
The event will provide an opportunity to understand and learn how we can all play our part to deliver personalised, respectful and culturally competent care.
Angela McConville, Chief Executive at NCT, said: “We cannot ignore the unacceptable fact that Black women are disproportionally negatively affected by unequitable and unsafe care throughout their entire maternity journey.
“At NCT we are passionately committed to listening, learning and challenging the underlying causes of racial disparities in maternity services, whilst helping to advocate for women who might experience racism in pregnancy, birth or postnatally.
“That is why it is imperative we continue to foster strong sector partnerships and alliances with organisations like The Motherhood Group, who are persistently trying to bridge the gap between the community, policymakers and maternity services, whilst empowering Black women to access the equitable and personalised care they deserve.”
