NCT’s Chair of Trustees, Stephanie Maurel will be stepping down later this year after three years in the role.
Prior to becoming Chair of the charity in August 2021, Stephanie spent four years as a valued member of the Board of Trustees, having been appointed in 2017.
Stephanie has made a significant impact at NCT, the UK’s largest charity for pregnancy, birth and early parenthood. During her time on the Board, she has played an important role in leading the charity through the pandemic, stewarding the creation of NCT’s ambitious new five-year strategy, For Every Parent, and facilitating an open and inclusive governance culture.
Her decision to stand down comes at a time when Stephanie, who is Chief Executive of the Corporation of Church House, is nearing the end of her three-year ministerial training, and is set to be ordained as a priest of the Church of England in summer 2025.
Stephanie said: “It has been my pleasure and privilege to be part of NCT’s Board for the last seven years, and to have had the opportunity to Chair our incredible charity for the latter part of that has been my absolute honour.
“My decision to step down as Chair has not been an easy one to make, but the time is right for me to hand the baton over to someone new, to help lead us through the next phase of our For Every Parent strategy.
“I’ve witnessed first-hand the enormous difference NCT makes to so many new parents and families across the UK in those vital early stages of parenting, and I take great pride in knowing that we played a part in that.”
Sarah Brown, Vice Chair at NCT, said: “On behalf of NCT’s Board and community, I want to thank Stephanie who has dedicated her time, invaluable expertise and experience to her role as Chair over the last three years and committed seven years as a valued member of the Board of Trustees.”
Angela McConville, Chief Executive at NCT, said: “Stephanie’s leadership and strategic direction has been instrumental in helping us to shape the charity’s new For Every Parent 23-28 strategy. The impact of her work will be long-lasting beyond her time with NCT, she leaves a proud legacy.
“We are now at the beginning of an exciting journey to find a new Chair who is dedicated, strategic and motivated by NCT’s mission to support more people as they become parents. The new Chair will be critical to the stewardship of our ambitious strategy to reach more parents with trusted and relevant information, support and services, while calling for systemic change that delivers equitable maternity experiences in pregnancy, birth and postnatally for all parents at this critical, life-changing stage of their lives. I would encourage anyone interested in learning more about the role and the impact of our incredible charity to get in touch.”
Stephanie will remain as NCT Chair until a successor is appointed, with a formal handover expected to take place at the charity’s AGM later this year.
