Collaborating with our supporters, expending resources, and investing funds for our future are critical activities that help us fulfil our charitable mission of supporting people as they become parents through each unique journey of pregnancy, birth, and early parenthood.

Our policies and practices in this space have evolved over many years as we build upon our respected heritage of working with a wide variety of supporters to support new and expectant parents.

In 2022, our trustees approved our latest framework to ensure that our values and legal responsibilities are represented across all our partnership activities, including all types of supporters (e.g. corporate, charity or individual donor) and all types of funding (e.g. from donations to our own investments).

Our Commercial and Charitable Activities Policy framework applies to everyone at NCT and will help us ensure that our funding and partnering arrangements are in the best interests of our charity’s mission.

For example:

  • Parent and Child Safety: Our commitment to ensuring that we don't knowingly partner with any organisation or individual linked to the harm or detriment of parents and/or babies.
  • Equity: We are committed to providing equitable, inclusive access to all our support and services, and partner with organisations and individuals who hold the same values as us.
  • Empowerment: We have over 300 branches throughout the UK. Each branch is run by our outstanding network of volunteers. We trust and support our volunteers to make decisions on gifts, donations and sponsorship that are right for their local activities, and their local area, within the parameters set by the framework.
  • Infant feeding: We support the WHO International Code of Marketing of Breastmilk Substitutes and the UNICEF Baby Friendly Initiative. We work with organisations and individuals who hold the same values of supporting parents to have access to information on infant feeding (breastfeeding, expressing, formula milks, bottle feeding, mixed feeding and introducing solid food) that is free of commercial interest and marketing.
  • Sustainability: We work with individuals and organisations who share our commitment to protecting the environment and responding to the climate crisis.
