Having a check in point, and a reason to leave the house on a Tuesday morning which has helped give a bit of structure to the week. It also gives me a place to turn to outside of formal services to talk things through with people slightly more outside the system (but still with experience of struggles after having a baby!).

The way the volunteers create a safe and open environment that welcomes sharing, emotional responses and genuinely being interested in how we are doing means I look forward to going to the in-person sessions. This is the only group I actually look forward to!

You have helped me to feel like I'm not alone in struggling. The other mum groups I go to everyone seems to have everything together a lot more and I just feel like a failure all the time but at Parents in Mind the other mums are finding it hard too and no one gets uncomfortable if you cry.

What support is available?

Support is provided across a range of Children and Family Centres, Family Hubs, Community Centres, outdoor spaces and also online via Zoom and WhatsApp (both group and 1-1). Support is tailored to client preference, and moves gently, but with focus: normalising the difficulties of caring for a baby, decreasing isolation, and empowering parents with resources and information.

The local staff team are at the end of the phone for those interested in support, and are keen to liaise with any of our brilliant local partner organisations to make sure care is ‘joined up’ for our clients.

Our project is always keen to welcome new volunteers – parents with lived experience of the struggles raising a newborn can bring, who are passionate about supporting the wellbeing of those in the Coventry/Warwickshire community navigating these struggles today, and who can give two hours a week, in exchange for free accredited mental health training and the chance to make a transformative impact on the early days of family life.
