One-to-one counselling sessions

These sessions provide a safe, non-judgemental and confidential space for clients to speak about and explore anything that prevents them from feeling OK.

We believe that the process of counselling is a journey which allows people to find clarity in their thoughts, feelings and life experiences. The counselling we offer is person-centred which means it you decide what to speak about and how much you choose to share. There is no pressure to talk about things you do not want to talk about.

Sessions are with a qualified, registered counsellor and take place weekly at an agreed day and time. Sessions usually last 50 minutes and will take place on a weekly basis. They can take place either online or in person with child care available.

We offer an initial six sessions with an extension if required. Interpreters are available and a crèche is provided for each session.

If you have any questions, please email newham.nurture@nct.org.uk or call Gifty on 07999 027268. If would like someone to call you, please fill in our self referral form.

Art with Heart group sessions

Two people painting at a craft table

These creative sessions allow mums to connect, create and communicate with each other through the medium of art.

The session is specifically for mums to have a bit of space and time away from their babies to do something for themselves. The sessions are not about becoming an artist but about increasing focus, concentration, mindfulness, being present and self-expression. Creating and finishing an activity also allows for a sense of accomplishment which can be a boost to confidence.

Some of the creative activities available include:

  • knitting
  • sewing
  • painting
  • cross stitch
  • diamond art
  • rock painting

Sessions are held in Plaistow. A crèche is provided.

Introduction to Counselling group sessions

This 6 week introduction to counselling takes place weekly in Plaistow. The sessions are group based with a maximum of 8 who are expected to attend all the sessions.

The sessions will provide an overview of counselling, including:

  • what counselling is and isn't
  • cultural attitudes towards counselling
  • emotional wellbeing and self-care

Participants will also learn tools to help themselves. The sessions aim to be interactive, educational and informative. Group sessions bring a different dynamic to one-to-one sessions, and they can be very powerful and supportive. We aim to create a safe space where experiences can be shared and support can be provided.

A crèche is provided.
