We aim to support parents through the whole of their feeding journey with Breastfeeding support and Introducing Solids Workshops.
Breastfeeding
Breastfeeding rates in the UK are extremely low, despite a huge proportion of mothers wanting to breastfeed. This is often due to a lack of support through the difficult early weeks. We aim to be that support for families in our local area.
If you need any advice on breast or bottle feeding your baby, you can call the NCT Infant Feeding Helpline on 0300 330 0700 option 1. Lines are open every day from 8am to midnight, including bank holidays.
Outside of NCT, Plymouth is very lucky to have a network of latch on groups. These groups are friendly, informal and completely free. All pregnant and breastfeeding mums and their partners are welcome. Breastfeeding peer supporters and health professionals are on hand for information and support if you need it. There are groups all over the city and more details can be found on their Plymouth Latch On website.
Weaning
As well as breastfeeding support, you can also obtain support from the NCT on weaning.
The move to solid foods is a big step for you and your baby. There are many methods and a lot of advice which often make it difficult for parents to make the right decision for them and their baby.
We run regular Introducing Solids workshops for parents of babies between 4 and 6 months old. Courses can be booked here. This workshops gives you information to help you make the best decision for you and your baby, and will leave you feeling confident about your weaning journey. Courses are 2 hours long.
